Life Through the Lens formally launched in January 2020 and I had my first paid Soul Story film scheduled for mid-March.  Then Covid hit and it has forced me to reimagine my business at a time when social isolation was at its peak.  Happily, it led me to a few inspiring projects and one wild adventure.  A great lesson in re-imagining and re-defining success.

An Ode to the Inlet

In late August, I boarded an aluminum landing craft with a band of fellow explorers.  Judith Williams, retired Professor of Art History was our guide and storyteller.  From Cortes Island, we navigated Bute Inlet, a deep fjord carved deep into the mountains of British Columbia’s wild west coast.  It is one of the most scenic waterways in the world with abundant wildlife.

Nearing the upper reaches of the inlet, we cut the motor and drifted quietly.  Out of the stillness, one of the young men who has a reputation for ‘calling the whale’ began to sing.  His soft melodic voice had us in a trance, our eyes scanning the waters.  It wasn’t long before a burst of spray broke the surface and a distinctive pectoral fin and knobbly head of a lone humpback whale emerged, gliding gracefully through the still waters.

This majestic trip, full of awe and beauty, planted a seed for another collaborative film with Robin Hood – An Ode to the Inlet.  Stay tuned!
